MT. RAINIER, Md. - The Prince George's County Fire Department says two people lost their lives in a house fire early Thursday morning.

Neighbors tell DCW50 it was an elderly couple, a man and a woman, who lived at the home for decades.

"Good people, I mean just loving, kind people," says Belinda Fingle, a next door neighbor. "I would go to work and come back, they would set a box right here in front of my door with a whole lot of food and what not."

The fire department says they got the call to the 3400 block of Eastern Avenue around 6:00 a.m.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Firefighters found only one working smoke alarm, in the basement.

Crews went back out to the neighborhood and installed working smoke alarms in nine different homes.
