ALEXANDRIA, Va. – A man was indicted Monday for murdering an 82-year-old man in Alexandria in July.
Police say 31-year-old Dallas Smith was indicted on 5 felony charges for killing Jerry Scott at his home on E. Reed Avenue.
Smith was charged with First Degree Murder, Burglary While Armed, two counts of Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
Smith has been in jail since July 25 when police arrested him for Obstruction.

Police in Alexandria are investigating a suspicious death discovered at a home near Potomac Yard Monday morning.
The Alexandria Police Department said the Jerry Scott, 82, was found dead inside a home on E. Reed Street, not far from Reagan National Airport.
Police said someone inside the home called for help just after 7 a.m. EMS responded but Scott was declared deceased on scene and not sent to the hospital.
Investigators said Scott suffered trauma to his upper body.
Police spent several hours at the home Monday searching inside and keeping a close eye on the front and back of the small home.
Neighbors said they remember seeing an older man at the home who drove a red car but could not provide any other details like how long he had lived there. There wasn’t a red car parked in front of the home Monday evening.

Alexandria Police said through a tweet that they don’t believe there is an immediate and apparent threat to the public and called activity at the home part of an active investigation.
