CARROLL COUNTY, MD. — A son who is accused of jerking the steering wheel out of his mother’s hands and directing their car off the road has been charged with attempted second degree murder, first and second degree assault, and reckless endangerment.

Devin Harbison, 18, is being held while police investigate the events that led to him and his mother being in an accident that caused them to leave Route 27 and crash through the front yard of a residence on Ridge Road in Mt. Airy.

Devin’s mother, Susan Harbison, 51, was flown via medevac to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center for medical treatment.

Police believe that the two were arguing at the time of the crash, causing Devin to grab the wheel.

There were no other passengers in the car at the time of the crash, and the car caused some property damage to the front yard it traveled into.
