FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — Reston police are looking for whoever abandoned a neglected dog in the area of Chatham Colony Court and Moorings Drive.

The dog was found with two pounds of matted hair covering it, and one badly infected eye. Police said “it was barely recognizable as a dog”.

They said they’re investigating this as an animal cruelty/abandonment case because the dog doesn’t seem to be a stray — it hadn’t been out in the elements for an extended period, and it had no fleas.

The dog is expected to survive, although its infected eye may no longer be functional.

Anyone who recognizes the dog or knows where its owner lives is asked to contact the Animal Services Division at 703-691-2131.
