ALEXANDRIA, Va. — A video posted on YouTube shows an opera singer continuing to belt out a melody in Old Town as police take her into custody.

The video was posted by Krista Clouse, who performs internationally as an opera singer. She also performs as a street musician around Old Town, busking for tips. Police arrested her on Saturday doing this exact thing, on charges of breaking a noise ordinance.

A PIO for the Alexandria Police Department said that Clouse was not arrested because of her singing. She said the singer was using electronics to amplify her voice, and that police asked her several times to stop over the course of the night.

When Clouse did not comply, police took her into custody. She was later released on her own recognizance.
