Inmates assault staff members in Md. juvenile detention center riot

FREDERICK CO. – Several staff members were injured in a riot caused by inmates at a juvenile detention center in Frederick County Sunday, Maryland State Police say.

Police say the juveniles assaulted staff and destroyed property at Victor Cullen Center at the 6000 block of Cullen Drive around 11:300 a.m.

Three staff members were transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the riot, police say.

Police say state troopers and Frederick County deputies formed a security perimeter and spoke to the juveniles over radio. Seven juveniles surrendered and police took another into custody without incident.

There was no physical confrontation between police and juveniles. No escapes or injuries to juveniles were reported.

Police say charges are pending.
