WASHINGTON CO. – The Humane Society of Washington County (HSWC) is offering a $500 reward for information regarding a suspect who fatally shot a cat with a bow and arrow in Hagerstown.

Officials say the incident happened Thursday evening. HSWC Services responded to an urgent call for help on Mt. Aetna road. The caller reported finding a cat on their property that had been shot by a bow and arrow.

Humane Society officials say the cat was still alive, and the arrow lodged itself through the cat’s body. The cat succumbed to its injuries the following morning.

This is the second cat on Mt. Aetna Road to have been fatally shot with a bow and arrow in the last two months. HSWC urges pet owners in the area to exercise caution when letting their animals outside unattended.

“Deliberate acts of cruelty like this are particularly disturbing and should not be tolerated in any community,” writes HSWC. “We urge the public to share any related information that may help identify the suspect.”

Information should be directed to 301-733-2060.
