DULLES, Va. – A gaming convention planned for this weekend in Dulles, Virginia is reviewing security for their event after two people were killed and nine others were injured in a mass shooting at a Madden video game tournament in Jacksonville, Florida Sunday.

GEXCon is a two-day gaming convention consisting of several tournaments, one being a Madden NFL 19 tournament, planned for August 31-September 1 at the Dulles Convention Center.

Event producers say they have been in contact with the venue and their security team to review their existing plan to provide a safe environment for gamers. They say they are also expecting a police presence at the event.

GEXCon CEO, Dennis Wiltshire, says he immediately began discussions to review security procedures and staffing within 15 minutes of hearing about the Jacksonville incident.

“We understand that the shooting in Florida may have some of you concerned and we want to assure you that we are doing everything possible to make certain GEXCon will be a SAFE ENVIRONMENT,” said Wiltshire in a statement.
