FREDERICK COUNTY, Md. — The 355 bridge over Monocacy River in Maryland will be closed for up to sixty days after a commercial waste truck struck the beams of the bridge, says the Maryland Department of Transportation.

All traffic is being detoured to I-270 and MD 85 as crews work on repairing the bridge. MDOT is advising commuters to plan for extra travel time.

“The damaged sections of the bridge will need to be removed and new steel beams fabricated, installed and inspected before the bridge can reopen,” said MDOT SHA District 7 Engineer John Concannon. “As the holidays approach, traffic will increase near the malls, so MDOT SHA is expediting repairs to the bridge and will open it as soon as possible.”
