LANHAM, MD. -- Dozens of residents of a Lanham apartment complex were displaced by a fire that happened Thursday morning.

The Prince George's County Fire Department responded to a two-alarm fire at a three-story apartment complex in the 5600 block of Whitfield Chapel Rd. Spokesman Mark Brady said it started in the ceiling of the second floor and spread to the third floor.

Only one citizen was injured as a result of the fire, suffering minor burns to their hand. No firefighters were hurt.

The National Capital Region Red Cross said 14 apartment units were affected by the fire and over 50 people have been displaced. A spokesperson said the organization was helping find housing for people in 12 of the units.

The property manager told DCW50 News at 10 on Thursday afternoon that contractors had still not determined how long repairs will take and when residents will be allowed to move back in to the apartment.
