WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Humane Rescue Alliance is asking your help finding the owner of a dog who was left outside an adoption center Wednesday tied in two bags.

HRA says the dog, now named Mary, was found outside the New York Avenue facility tied shut in a basket with a note saying the dog was dead.

However, when HRA personnel freed Mary from the bags and examined her, they say she was alert and breathing, but suffering from multiple illnesses.

Mary was immediately transferred to the Friendship Hospital for Animals for further care and evaluation. HRA says it was determined Mary could not be saved, and she was humanely euthanized.

HRA is offering a $3,000 reward for information regarding Mary’s owner.

“She was left to suffer and die a painful death. We hope this reward will motivate someone to come forward so that justice can be served,” said HRA’s Vice President of Field Services Chris Schindler.
