WASHINGTON, D.C. - This weekend's Opening Act is the Firebird Organ Trio.
Every week, Shannon Gunn leads the post-bop Firebird Organ trio, featuring a rotating cast of organists/keyboardists and drummers. The group plays two sets. Recently, their first sets have been dedicated to re-imagining monumental albums in the jazz world by figures like Horace Silver, Art Blakey, and Cedar Walton. Gunn encourages local musicians to bring themselves and their original compositions to set two.
The trio performs at Columbia Station which always hosts music. Columbia Station is home for true jazz and blues fans. You can often hear intertwined tubas, trumpets, and trombones within the restaurant. They also serve all-American food like burgers, pizza, sandwiches and pasta.
