This week’s DCW MVP will almost surely be running to get back on track after injuries spoiled the last two seasons of cross country for Annie Elliott.

The Damascus High School junior has not been able to repeat the stellar times she posted as a freshman because of several injuries but she hasn’t lost a step when it comes to supporting her teammates and being a leader on the team.

In fact, Elliott continued to run this fall during the cross country season despite still recovering from two stress fractures she suffered in her sophomore year.

“There was a time when I could barely walk,” said Elliott of her 9-month layoff from the track.

The times she posted this fall during the cross country season times didn’t put her at the top of the leaderboard but they did help her teammates qualify for the state meet and endear her to her coach Jason Bozicevich.

“Even when she was injured she was still showing up for practice every day on crutches and watched and encouraged her teammates she came to every meet and did the things a leader would do handing water out helping people with homework,” said Bozicevich.

Elliott does a lot of work outside of the classroom as well. She has multiple AP classes and activities like music and sewing that she juggles along with her time on the track. Still, she hasn’t given up on the posting those outstanding times again and earning a spot on a track team in college.

“I wouldn't be able to just give up,” said Elliott. “I have to keep going and keep pushing and try and get back.”

Not only for herself but for her team mates who the coach said couldn’t help but be inspired by her comeback efforts.

“I love my team they are a great bunch of kids we're like a big family and our coach works really hard to make sure we can do our best,” said Elliott.
