WASHINGTON, D.C. – A D.C. man was arrested Tuesday after law enforcement found 11 dead cats in his home back in May.
Humane Law Enforcement received a call about a number of cats living in Louis Kirksey, Jr.’s home on Darrington Street, Southwest in mid-April.
On May 8, officials say officers searched the residence and found 10 cats living in the home, most with medical issues such as upper respiratory infections, eye and ear infections, and sores to their bodies.
In additional, authorities say officers found 11 dead kittens in various stages of decomposition throughout the home. The residence was littered with feces, the furniture was saturated with animal waste, and the house smelled of cat urine.
Kirksey was arrested at his home. Following the arrest, Kirksey will likely be arraigned, given a status hearing date and released. He faces 16 counts of animal cruelty charges.
The living cats were rescued from the home and transferred to the care of the Humane Rescue Alliance.
