WASHINGTON, D.C. – An active D.C. firefighter died of injuries from a car crash that happened earlier this month, fire officials said Saturday.

Robert “Bob” Marshall, 56, was in critical condition after being involved in a roadside collision in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania officials say.

The crash happened on the side of I-81 while Marshall was off-duty.

Marshall is a 20 year veteran of the department.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and fellow firefighters,” D.C. Fire & EMS said in a tweet.
