BRYANS ROAD, MD. -- A Charles County man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder for allegedly attacking his wife over several hours.

The Charles County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) said the incident began on March 23 at 1:57 p.m., when deputies were called to a home in the 2500 block of Archway Lane in Bryans Road, Md. for a report of a stabbing. They found a man who had lacerations on his hands and his wife was in the basement with multiple stab wounds.

Detectives said that further investigation revealed that the husband, Armando Quispe Rodriguez, 45, had suddenly attacked his wife while she was sleeping. They are still trying to determine a motive for the attack, but add that it lasted for several hours.

"And then at some point he restrained her with the shackles on her ankles and handcuffs and during that time period, he stabbed her multiple times. Over 20 times and he also placed a paper bag over her head a tried to strangle her," said CCSO spokesperson Diane Richardson. She added that Rodriguez then called 911 and told deputies that both of them had been attacked.

The wife suffered serious injuries but is expected to survive.

The couple has two young children, but they were not at home during the attack.

The CCSO encourages anyone who is a victim of domestic violence and needs help to call their 24-hour crisis hotline at 301-645-3336
