FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — Police are investigating a Centreville man’s death after he appears to have been struck and killed by his own vehicle, which then struck a townhouse.

A police investigation indicates that David Sifuentes, 29, was repairing his Volkswagen while it was parked on Prince Way. An 8-year-old boy was inside the car, and police say Sifuentes asked him to start it while he stood outside the driver’s side door.

The vehicle went in reverse. Sifuentes tried to stop the car by holding onto the steering wheel, was thrown from it and hit the ground. He died at the scene. The car continued through the parking lot, over a curb and crashed into a townhouse.

Police say they don’t think alcohol contributed to the crash, and there were no other injuries.

Anyone with information about this crash is asked to call the CRU witness line at 703-280-0543.
