Allegany County man arrested on distribution of child pornography charges

CUMBERLAND, Md– After a five month investigation, Maryland State Police arrested Patrick Ortiz, 51, of Cumberland, Md on five counts of distribution of child pornography and five counts of possession of child pornography.

State Police Computer Crimes Unit started an investigation in March after encountering someone distributing child pornography over the internet.  After the files were determined to be child pornography, an investigation led to an address in Cumberland, Md.

A warrant for Ortiz was issued in collaboration with the Maryland State Police, Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Combined County Criminal Investigations Unit, and Homeland Security.

Investigators have recovered the computers used and will be examined at the State Police Computer Crimes Unit forensic lab.
