After chase, U.S. Park Police officers shoot suspect in hit-and-run crash

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – United State Park Police say their officers were involved in a shooting after pursuing a suspect in a hit-and-run crash.

According to police, officers shot a man in the area of Fort Hunt Road and Alexandria Avenue in Fairfax County around 7:42 p.m.

Police say the man was wanted in connection to a reported hit-and-run crash that happened southbound on George Washington Memorial Parkway at Slaters Lane.

Officers attempted to stop the car involved, however, the driver led U.S. Park Police officers on a chase that ended at Fort Hund Road and Alexandria Avenue.

Police say the driver was the only man inside the car at the time of the shooting.

He was taken to a local hospital and is listed in critical condition.

At the scene, the car was flipped over on its side in a ditch at the intersection.

Police say the roadway was closed for approximately six hours as they investigated the scene and the investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident is ongoing.
