MONTGOMERY CO. – About 50 cats have been rescued in a fire at a house in Wheaton hoarding conditions, rescue officials say.
Firefighters responded to a single-family house fire at the 3400 block of Weller Road around 3:20 p.m. Wednesday.
One civilian was injured, one firefighter was injured, and about 50 cats and kittens were rescued, officials say.
Some cats got out of the house on their own and others were saved by firefighters.
Animal control was requested because of the significant number of cats.
Officials say there were also extreme hoarding conditions in the house.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but officials say it started in the basement.
