5 D.C. shootings leave 2 dead, child wounded in 24 hours

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Five separate shootings across D.C. left two people dead and a juvenile injured all within a 24 hour time span.

First, police responded to the 1200 block of Bladensburg Road in Northeast for the report of a shooting around 5:50 p.m. Sunday.

Then, officers were called to the 200 block of 36th Street in Northeast just before 11 p.m. the same night. Upon arrival, police say officers found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the victims was a juvenile who was shot in the leg. Both victims were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A little over an hour later, just after midnight on Monday, police say officers responded to the 3900 block of Pennsylvania Avenue in Southeast. There, officers found 36-year-old Tony Payne, Jr., of Oxon Hill, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital where he later died.

Under an hour and a half later, police say they responded to the 1900 block of 9th street in Northwest for a double shooting. Officers located two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were taken to the hospital. 22-year-old Phillip Dumbuya, of Hyattsville, died of his injuries. The other victim is expected to survive.

40 minutes after that shooting, police say they responded to the 600 block of 46th Place in Southeast for the report of another shooting.
