The City of Alexandria’s “Ad Hoc Advisory Group on Renaming Jefferson Davis Highway” launched an online survey this past week and scheduled two public hearings to solicit potential new names for a portion of the U.S. Route 1 road. Back in September of 2016, the Alexandria City Council voted unanimously to begin the process of renaming Jefferson Davis Highway in Alexandria and now they are pushing forward on finding a new name.

The survey, , is available through September 15th, 2017, and allows respondents to suggest new street names. The Advisory Group will hold a public hearing on September 25th for those who wish to provide feedback in person, and is contacting residents and businesses located on Jefferson Davis Highway via postal mail. The Advisory Group’s final meeting is expected to be held on October 5th, 2017, at which a recommendation to the City Manager would be adopted. Both meetings will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., at a location yet to be determined.  The public hearing previously scheduled for August 17th has been cancelled.
