Georgetown Football vs Catholic University This Saturday at Noon

DCW50 Washington’s CW is the Home of Georgetown Hoyas Football

Washington, D.C.  (Sept. 3, 2019) –  WDCW50, Washington’s CW (Tribune Media Company) will broadcast three Georgetown University home football games this season from the Georgetown University campus in Washington, D.C. The 2019 Georgetown Hoyas football team represents Georgetown University in the 2019 NCAA Division I FCS football season. They are led by sixth-year head coach Rob Sgarlata and play their home games at Cooper Field. The Hoyas are a member of the Patriot League.

“DCW50’s broadcasts of these games mark the first time Georgetown Football has been carried on free over-the-air-television in the Washington, D.C. market in many years,” said DCW50 Vice President & General Manager Vincent Manzi. “We’re excited to have the Hoyas, with their rich local history in the D.C. community, on DCW50. It promises to be a great season ahead.”

The broadcast schedule includes the following games:

Saturday, September 14        12 noon      Catholic University

Saturday, October 12               2PM          Fordham University (Georgetown Homecoming)

Saturday, November 2           12 noon      Colgate University

“I am very excited to establish a relationship with DCW50 this season,” Georgetown Head Coach Rob Sgarlata said. ” This additional exposure will allow us to continue to recruit the best student-athletes in the country to join the Hoya football family. This contract will allow us to leverage the power of Georgetown to add to our current roster of 90 players from 24 different states.”

While Georgetown University athletics’ mascot is a bulldog, the football team has long been referred to as the “Hoyas.” Among the “Top 25 Things Every Hoya Should Know,” many years ago there was a team at Georgetown called the “Stonewalls,” and it is suggested that a student applied the Greek and Latin terms and dubbed them “Hoya Saxa,” meaning “what rocks!” Hoya has since become a nickname for Georgetown’s athletic teams and students.

The Patriot League is a collegiate athletic conference comprised of private institutions of higher education and two United States service academies based in the Northeastern United States. Outside the Ivy League, it is among the most selective group of higher education institutions in NCAA Division I and has a very high student-athlete graduation rate for both the NCAA graduation success rate and the federal graduation rate.
