Armed man shot by police officer outside Jessup hotel in serious condition

HOWARD CO. – A man who pointed a gun at a police officer at a hotel is in serious condition after being shot the officer, police say.

Officers responded to the Extended Stay America in the 8500 block of Washington Boulevard in Jessup for the report of a man acting erratically in the lobby, according to police.

The investigation shows 42-year-old Terrell Carroll, of Jessup, exited the lobby and pointed a gun at an officer who was in the parking lot.

Then, police say 3-year officer, Briah Meekins, shot Carroll in the leg after deploying beanbag rounds in an attempt to subdue him.

Police say Carroll was taken to a trauma center where he is now in serious condition.

He is charged with assault on an officer and weapon violations.

No one else was injured in the shooting.
