EA cancels Madden tournament at Dulles gaming convention

LOUDOUN CO. – EA Sports has cancelled this weekend’s Madden Classic tournament as part of a gaming convention in Dulles, Virginia following the fatal Jacksonville mass shooting.

There were three remaining Madden tournaments, operated by independent partners, EA decided to cancel while they review safety protocols.

“We will work with our partners and our internal teams to establish a consistent level of security at all of our competitive gaming events,” said EA CEO Andrew Wilson in a statement.

One of those tournaments was scheduled to take place at GEXCon, a 2-day event at the Dulles Convention Center.

GEXCon tweeted they were informed that EA decided to cancel all remaining qualifying tournaments.

“The Madden event was only one of several tournaments to be held. GEXCon will be held this weekend with tournaments, free play, BYOC, board games, and much more,” tweeted GEXCon.

On Monday, GEXCon announced they would review all safety procedures and expect to have a police presence at the event.
