Air quality alert in effect for D.C. metro area

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A Code Orange Air Quality Alert is in effect for the D.C. metro area Tuesday.

A Code Orange Air Quality Alert means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups.

Officials say sensitive groups include children, people suffering from asthma, heart disease or other lung diseases and the elderly. The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding strenuous activity or exercise outdoors.

City of Laurel: NOTE: Never leave pets, young children, or the elderly in a vehicle for ANY amount of time, even with the window open, temperatures inside parked cars can reach up to 130 degrees in only a few minutes.
