WASHINGTON, D.C. – The District is home to the second best new restaurant in America, according to the magazine Bon Appétit.

The magazine came out with their picks for 2018’s hottest new restaurants, and Maydan took the number 2 spot.

The Middle Eastern restaurant, located at 1346 Florida Avenue, NW, was inspired by the owner’s travels to cities including Tangier, Tehran and Batumi.

Maydan, which means town square, serves dips, spreads, salads, roasted and grilled meats and seafood.

“It took a trip halfway around the world to design the live-fire hearth at the center of this Middle Eastern restaurant,” writes Andy Baraghani in the Bon Appétit article. “But it takes only one meal—and a couple hours staring longingly at the huge hearth and all the charred meats and puffy bread coming off it—to realize why it was so worth it.”

This isn’t the first time the iconic D.C. restaurant received kudos.

Back in April, Maydan was named “Restaurant of the Year” by Food & Wine Magazine.
