Man arrested after assaulting victim with bike in possible hate crime

WASHINGTON, D.C. – D.C. Police are investigating a possible hate crime where a man hit a victim with a bike.

Police say 24-year-old Maxim Smith was in an argument with the victim in the 1200 block of Wisconsin Avenue, Northwest Monday around 1:40 a.m.

During the argument, police say Smith made derogatory statements to the victim. Then, Smith picked up a bicycle and struck the victim.

Smith was arrested by responding officers. Police say the victim was taken to a hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Smith is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon.

D.C. Police say they are investigating this incident as being motivated by hate or bias. Although, that can change at any point as the investigation continues.
