WASHINGTON D.C. – On Monday, Jamaica marks its 56th year as an independent nation.

The occasion sets off a month-long celebration with many events in the Washington D.C. area, including the first DC World Reggae Festival happening August 19 at RFK Stadium.

It began Sunday with an annual chapel service at the Howard University School of Law. DCW50’s News Intern Sylvia Mphofe has more on the celebration.
