WASHINGTON, D.C. - This weekend's Opening Act is Dave Chappell, a Washington, D.C. native. He is one of the most sought after and respected musicians in the area. For the last several years, he has won the Washington Area Music Awards for 'Musician of the Year', 'Rock Instrumentalist of the Year', and 'Roots Rock Instrumentalist of the Year'.
He has performed with Rock and Roll Hall of Fame legends Jerry Lee Lewis, Sam Moore of Sam & Dave, Percy Sledge, Johnny Johnson, and guitar wizard, Danny Gatton.
He can be heard frequently at area clubs such as JV's Restaurant, State Theater, the Birchmere, Bethesda Blues and Jazz, The Music Cafe and Picadilly's Pub - performing with DC area favorites Tommy Lepson and Bruce Swaim. And from time to time, Johnny Neel from the Allman Brother's Band and Gov't Mule.
Chappell performed at National Gallery of Art's Free Jazz in the Garden Concert Series. Jazz in the Garden lineup features acclaimed musicians presenting a wide variety of jazz styles—swing, funk, hip-hop, Latin, go-go, ska, Dixieland, blues, and more.
Every Friday evening from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. through August 24, 2018, the Gallery will invite visitors to find a seat among the monumental works of art in the Sculpture Garden and enjoy one of the city's favorite summertime activities.
