STUDY: Virginia among states you’re most likely to get catfished

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Virginians may want to take caution before swiping right.

The Old Dominion ranks among the states you’re most likely to get catfished in the U.S., according to a study by HighSpeedInternet.com.

The study used FBI romance fraud data from 2016 to determine which states had the most romance scams and catfishing victims.

The study shows the top five states people are most likely to get catfished are:

  1. Alaska
  2. Nevada
  3. Colorado
  4. Arizona
  5. Oregon

Virginia and Florida came in next.

However, there is some good news for people who live in the District. D.C. ranked in the top fives states people are least likely to get catfished:

  1. North Dakota
  2. Mississippi
  3. Rhode Island
  4. South Dakota
  5. Washington, D.C.
