Takoma Park officer shoots teen who fired at police

TAKOMA PARK, Md. – Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened in Takoma Park, Maryland Wednesday.

The investigation shows 19-year-old Kenneth Carroll, of Northeast, D.C., open fired on an officer during a chase in the 200 block of Sheridan Street, Northeast around 7 p.m.

Police say the officer chased after Carroll on foot from Takoma Park into Northeast, D.C. During the pursuit, Carroll took out a pistol and fired at the officer. The officer was not struck.

The officer shot back, striking Carroll. Carroll was arrested by responding officers and taken to a hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Carroll is charged with assault on a police officer while armed and carrying a pistol without a license, police say.
