WASHINGTON, D.C. – The manager of a popular D.C. restaurant is now in critical condition after, police say, he was shot outside a wedding reception in Atlanta early Sunday morning.

Atlanta Police say they responded to a wedding reception at Capitol City Club around 12:15 a.m. in Northeast Atlanta.

Upon arrival, officers found Christian Broder suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Police say he was taken to a nearby hospital.

The investigation shows that Broder was waiting outside the reception hall along with three additional victims. While waiting, police say a vehicle approached them and stopped a short distance away.

A suspect, described by police as a young Black male, exited the vehicle and approached the victims.

The suspect took out a gun and demanded the victims’ property. Police say the victims gave the suspect their items of value and the suspect started to return to the vehicle.

That’s when, police say, Broder followed the suspect. The suspect fired one gunshot at Broder, striking his abdomen.

According to a GoFundMe, Broder has undergone several surgeries and remains in critical condition.

“He has a long journey ahead, but his family, friends and the entire medical team continue to be impressed by his strength,” writes the GoFundMe page.

Broder is a manager at Millie’s Spring Valley Restaurant.
