Suspicious man approaches jogger near UMD

PRINCE GEORGE’S CO. – The University of Maryland Police Department is warning students about an incident Tuesday evening.

Campus police say a female UMD student was jogging along the Paint Branch Trail near Pierce Avenue and Rhode Island Avenue around 7:30 p.m. when she passed an unknown man.

The student told police the man was wearing all dark clothing with a black backpack and advanced toward her.

Police say the jogger was able to deflect the man’s advances and ran away from the man.

The man was last seen running into the woods.

Police are investigating the situation. They ask anyone with information about the incident to call 301-459-3232.
