MONTGOMERY CO. – Councilmember Marc Elrich announced he won the Democratic primary for Montgomery County Executive.

Elrich said Monday morning that the Board of Elections finished counting ballots and he received about 80 more votes than his closest competitor, David Blair. Elrich says he expects to be certified as the Democratic nominee for County Executive next week.

“Thank you once more for all the work you did to help secure this victory,” Elrich said in a statement. “As I’ve written before, we wouldn’t be here without the doors you knocked, the numbers you called, and the dollars you have given.”

Elrich received 37,510 votes to Blair’s 37,424 votes, according to the Board of Elections. The final numbers came in after election officials counted thousands of provisional ballots.

Officials say Blair could request a recount if his campaign funds it, but the final vote must be certified by July 16.
