PRINCE GEORGE’S CO. – A former University of Maryland basketball player has been indicted for rape after having sex with an intoxicated woman last year, officials say.

Damonte Dodd met a woman for the first time at Terrapin’s Turf Bar on Halloween night of 2017 and bought her alcoholic drinks. Dodd left the bar with the woman and took her to an apartment in College Park.

Prosecutors say Dodd had sexual intercourse with the woman in the early hours of November 1 against her will. An occupant in the apartment confronted Dodd after waking up, and the victim reported the incident to police five days later.

Prosecutors say Dodd admitted to the sexual acts, but said it was consensual.

“The fact that the victim in this case was intoxicated did not give Mr. Dodd the right to take advantage of her,” Prince George’s County State’s Attorney, Angela Alsobrooks  said. “We will conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that he is held accountable for his actions.”

A warrant was issued for Dodd’s arrest, and prosecutors say he was taken into custody Thursday morning. He is currently being held in Atlanta and is schedule to appear in court July 12.

Dodd was indicted for second degree rape, second degree assault, and related charges, prosecutors say.
