Man punches, strangles woman who was holding their baby
PRINCE WILLIAM CO. – A man was arrested after, police say, he punched a woman in the face and strangled her while she was holding their baby.
Robert Hardy II, 38, of Woodbridge, has been wanted by police for domestic assault and other charges since Saturday.
Police responded to a residence at the 11400 block of Lucasville Road in Manassas June 23 to investigate a 911 call.
Investigators say Hardy got into an argument with a 35-year-old woman while driving. During that argument, Hardy choked the woman.
When the two arrived at the residence in Manassas, police say Hardy pulled the woman to the ground by her hair and punched her in the face. Hardy then proceeded to choke the woman again while she was holding their 6-month-old baby girl. The baby was not harmed.
The woman told police she lost consciousness at one point, but reported minor injuries.
Another family member who witnessed the assault called police. Then, Hardy took that phone from the family member and damaged it and fled the scene.
Police say they obtained an arrest warrant for Hardy that day.
Three days later, Hardy turned himself in.
Hardy is charged with strangulation, child endangerment, domestic assault and battery, and preventing the summoning of a law enforcement officer, police say.
