Virginia ranked most patriotic state in the U.S.

RICHMOND, Va. – With July 4 approaching, patriotism is in the air and all around us.

However, according to a recent study by WalletHub, some states have more love for the red, white, and blue than others.

After collecting data in 13 different categories that indicate patriotism, The Old Dominion came out on top in the number one spot. Also nicknamed the Mother of Presidents and Mother of States, this comes as no surprise.

WalletHub based their findings off of data including enlisted military population, veterans per capita, civic engagement, volunteer rate and more.

They found the top ten most patriotic states are:

  1. Virginia
  2. Alaska
  3. Wyoming
  4. South Carolina
  5. Idaho
  6. Colorado
  7. Hawaii
  8. Washington
  9. North Carolina
  10. Georgia

The study also concluded that red states are more patriotic than blue states.

Virginia’s neighbor, Maryland didn’t rank too shabby either coming in at number 16.

WalletHub found the least patriotic states are (ranking 46 to 50 respectively):

  • New York
  • Illinois
  • Rhode Island
  • New Jersey
  • Massachusetts
