Man charged after jumping White House fence

The White House

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A man has been charged after, officials say, he climbed the fence at the White House and dropped his backpack on the property.

U.S. Secret Service said the man jumped over a security barrier on the south side of the White House. He dropped his backpack and was immediately taken into custody on E Street.

D.C. Police declared the backpack safe.

The man was is now charged with unlawful entry.
