HOWARD CO. – Two people are dead after a car overturned in a river in Ellicott City Friday, police say.

A pedestrian walking by the Little Patuxent River contacted police around 12:50 p.m. after finding the vehicle submerged in water.

Emergency crews responded and are trying to remove the vehicle from the river. Officials say there were two unidentified people inside deceased.

Investigators say the car went off an overpass on Route 108 westbound near Columbia Road and landed in the water.

Officials do not know why the car left the roadway or when the incident happened.
