Suspect who dragged D.C. police officer with vehicle arrested

WASHINGTON, D.C. - A D.C. officer is severely injured after, police say, he was dragged alongside a vehicle.

The suspect has been identified as 25-year-old Darius Avery Gross, and police say he has been arrested.

An officer was assisting with an investigation at the 4700 block of Brooks Street, Northeast around 10:28 p.m.

During the investigation, police say the officer tried to arrest a suspect in a vehicle.

That's when, police say, the suspect accelerated the vehicle, causing the officer to be pulled alongside the vehicle.

Police say the officer was able to free himself from the vehicle, and the suspect fled the scene in the vehicle.

The officer was transported to a local hospital with severe but non-life threatening injuries.

The vehicle has been recovered.
