Officer shoots suspect who robbed Md. CVS
HOWARD CO. – A Howard County police officer shot a suspect in the leg who allegedly robbed a CVS, police say.
Police say they received a call around 3:20 a.m. Friday that two suspects stole Oxycontin, Percocet, and cash from a CVS store in the 6400 block of Old Waterloo Road in Elkridge.
Officers were able to locate the suspects’ vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop. Police say the car fled and struck a curb. Then, the suspects jumped out of the car.
An officer observed one of the suspects display a weapon toward police, and that’s when police say the officer, Russell DiAngelo, fired his own weapon. The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Jarkell Champion, was struck in the leg. Police say Champion ran off and was apprehended about 30 minutes later.
The other suspect, 18-year-old Titus Kittrell, attempted to flee but was quickly located and arrested, police say.
DiAngelo, who is an 8-year veteran, is on standard administration leave.
Police say both Champion and Kittrell will be charged.
