Person fatally struck by Amtrak train in Prince George’s Co.

PRINCE GEORGE’S CO. – One person is dead after being struck by an Amtrak train in Prince George’s County Monday afternoon, officials say.

The incident happened by Landover Road and Hanson Highway.

An Amtrak spokesperson says the train came into contact with a person who was on the tracks. At the time, 213 passengers were on board.

The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene, officials say.

The train originated in D.C. was heading to Boston, Amtrak says. The passengers were moved onto a different train. No other injuries were reported.

Penn Line Train 544 was cancelled due to a “trespasser strike,” the Maryland Transit Administration says.

Law enforcement will now be investigating.
