WASHINGTON, D.C. – A D.C. Ward 7 resident has started a petition to get food delivery companies who claim to serve Washington, D.C. to serve Ward 7 and 8.

“If you claim to serve Washington, D.C., you need to serve all 8 wards,” says the petition.

The campaign was created by Latoya Watson who says she wants to bridge the gap between the west and east of the Anacostia river.

Watson says on the petition that food delivering services including Postmates, Caviar, and Doordash claim to serve Washington, D.C. but exclude addresses in Ward 7 and 8.

“In Ward 7, over 94% of the community here is African American, whereas Ward 2, for example, is 71% white,” Watson writes on the petition.

The petition says 24 percent of D.C.’s population lives in reside in Ward 7 and 8 and a big portion of the District’s population is being ignored and underserved.
