Va. man dies after being assaulted by relative

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – An Alexandria man who was assaulted by a relative on Sunday has died.

Police responded to the 2200 block of N. Beauregard Street around 6:24 p.m. for a fight between relatives.

When police arrived, they say they found an unconscious man, and he was transported to the hospital.

Police say they arrested Brian Cruz-Segovia, 23, of Alexandria, Sunday and charged him with malicious wounding.

The victim, Nelson Cruz, 28, of Alexandria, succumbed to his injuries and died at the hospital Wednesday, police say.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined the manner of death to be homicide.

Police say this incident is the first homicide in Alexandria this year and ask anyone with information to call 703-746-6606.
