UPDATE: 14-year-old hit by bus at MLK Memorial dies

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A 14-year-old boy who was hit by a bus last Friday next to the MLK Jr. Memorial has died, Park Police say.

Officers responded to the incident around 6:50 p.m. at West Basin Drive and Independence Avenue SW. The boy was rushed to the Children’s Hospital in D.C.  with serious injuries.

Around 4:10 p.m. Thursday, police say the boy died as a result of his injuries at the hospital.

“This is a tragic incident for everyone involved and our hearts go out to his family in their time of grief,” U.S. Park Police said in a statement.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
