HYATTSVILLE, MD. -- A Prince George's County man has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly throwing sulfuric acid on his roommate.

Bekre Abdela, 28, also faces assault and other charges.

Prince George's County Police said on Saturday, February 24, at approximately 7:30 p.m., officers responded to a house on the 1000 block of East-West Highway in Hyattsville, Md. for a report of a roommate dispute.

Police found the victim, a woman, suffering from what appeared to be first-degree chemical burns on her face and second- and third-degree burns on her upper body.

The victim was able to tell police who did it before being placed into a medically induced coma to treat her injuries. She remains in the hospital in critical condition.

Abdela was not found at the home on Saturday, but detectives did find a bottle of acid in his bedroom, along with several boxes of handgun ammunition.

Abdela was located and arrested on Monday. Police said he admitted to his involvement in the attack.

A motive is still under investigation.

Abdela is being held without bond until his next court appearance.
