WASHINGTON, D.C. – Street and alley cleaning in D.C. will resume Thursday bringing back restrictions and tickets for violations.

Mechanical sweepers will be back on the roads from March 1 to October 31, so be on the look out for red and white street signs that restrict parking during certain hours.

A $45 ticket may be issued for violating the parking restrictions posted on the signs.

The Department of Public Works says golf cart-size sweepers, known as litter vacs, are used to vacuum litter from gutters and sidewalks in commercial areas, and larger sweepers are used along freeways and main arterials, which are swept year-round depending on the temperature.
