Social media threats to 2 Va. middle schools under investigation

STAFFORD CO. – The Stafford County Sheriff’s office is investigating a social media threat to two middle schools.

Authorities say they became aware Sunday of a picture of a handgun with a threatening message directed at middle schools attached to it. Police have not confirmed whether or not the pictured gun is real.

The schools threatened are T. Benton Gayle Middle School in Stafford County and Thornburg Middle School in Spotsylvania County.

A Stafford County spokesperson said schools will be increasing security on the next school day which is Tuesday.

Both Stafford and Spotsylvania County detectives are investigating.
