LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office says they have charged an employee of a behavioral healthcare center near Leesburg in connection with the death of a juvenile patient at that facility.

Officials say 47-year-old William Herndon, who worked at North Spring Behavioral Healthcare, was indicted on charges on January 11th of involuntary manslaughter in the death of a 15-year-old patient from Norfolk, Virginia. Police say the victim died after being restrained by the mental health technician at the facility.

Police say officers responded the facility on Victory Lane on the afternoon of November 19, 2017, for an assist rescue call. The teen was reportedly unresponsive and not breathing. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died. An investigation into the boy’s death found the victim had died from positional asphyxiation.

Herdon was taken into custody on Tuesday and is currently being held without bond.
